Participants in a Las Vegas protest against the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody dispersed after a demonstration that lasted nearly five hours Tuesday night and was without major reported problems.
That was in contrast to Monday night when a 29-year-old Las Vegas police officer was shot and wounded during a protest outside a hotel and casino and an armed man was fatally shot by law enforcement officers a few miles away during a protest outside a federal courthouse.
Officer Shay Mikalonis was hospitalized in critical condition. A man arrested in the shooting of the officer was identified as 20-year-old Edgar Samaniego of Las Vegas.
The man fatally shot outside the courthouse was identified as 25-year-old Jorge Gomez of Las Vegas.
