Henderson fire kills one, injures one, causes $280K in damage

An elderly woman was killed and a man was injured in a Henderson house fire this morning, according to fire officials.

The fire also proved fatal for a dog and a rabbit, and displaced 11 people, said the Henderson Fire Department.

Crews were dispatched at about 6:30 a.m. to the 500 block of Grisby Avenue, near Sunset Road and Stephanie Street, to find the single-story home in flames, and two people still inside, the fire department said.

The fatal victim, an 82-year-old woman, died at University Medical Center, where the injured man also was taken, the fire department said. He’s expected to recover.

The accidental fire, which investigators believe was sparked in the kitchen, also caused about $280,000 in damages, the fire department said.
