It will take until Saturday or Sunday to count all the ballots already received in Clark County, an elections officials said.

The county expects to release the results of about 51,000 mail-in ballots Friday and has another 63,000 left to process, Registrar of Voters Joe Gloria said today.

The county also has not counted an additional 60,000 provisional ballots cast by voters whose eligibility must be confirmed.

Beyond that, ballots postmarked by Election Day and received by Tuesday will also be counted. “That’s a number that I can’t give you. I can’t predict to you what’s going to come through the U.S. mail,” Gloria said.

According to the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office, 190,150 ballots remain to be counted in Nevada, 90 percent of them in Clark County. A total of 123,554 of those are either mail-in or drop-off ballots, and 66,596 are ballots that were cast in person, officials said.

In the race for president, Democrat Joe Biden was leading GOP incumbent Donald Trump by 11,438 votes in Nevada.

While the nation awaits the results of a race that could determine the presidency, Gloria said officials were focused on getting the count right.

“We’re not concerned with reading as fast we can; we’re concerned with making sure that we’re accurate in what we report,” Gloria said. “This is a very important election. The state of Nevada may make the decision for the president. We take that very seriously.”

Projections by the Associated Press have Biden with 264 electoral votes. Nevada’s six votes would put him at the 270 needed to win the White House if the other projections hold up.

After a heckler interrupted Gloria during a news conference Wednesday by yelling conspiracy theories about Biden, Gloria said today he was concerned about the safety of his staff. Police were providing security, he said.

“We’re going to continue to count,” Gloria said. “We will not allow anyone to stop us from doing what our duty is.”
