The closest race for the Clark County Commission is one that could add some party diversity to a completely Democratic board.

Republican Stavros Anthony was leading Democrat Ross Miller in the race for District C, an area that covers the west side of the valley. Anthony was up by 1,717 votes, or 1.3%, after an updated ballot count this morning.

No Republican has been elected to the commission since 2004.

William McCurdy, another Democrat and the state party chairman, was leading challenger David Washington, an independent, 76.7% to 23.2%.

“I’m extremely thankful and humbled that I’ve received the number of votes that I did,” McCurdy said.

Two other Democrats on the ballot for County Commission, incumbents Michael Naft and Marilyn Kirkpatrick, were also ahead.

Naft was leading against Republican Michael Thomas in District A, 52.5% to 47.5%.

Kirkpatrick, the commission chairwoman, was leading Republican Kevin Williams in District B, 53.5% to 44.2%.
