Sun issues correction, apology on Rodimer editorial

A Sun editorial published Aug. 24 contained a significant factual error about Nevada congressional candidate Dan Rodimer. The editorial stated that Rodimer was a “convicted criminal” with a battery conviction on his record stemming from a 2010 incident in Florida, but that was incorrect.

Instead, Rodimer entered a deferred prosecution agreement. He admitted to committing the offense of battery in that agreement, but did not plead guilty to the charge. Rodimer completed a six-week anger management course, and prosecutors agreed not to continue the case against him.

The Sun regrets the error and apologizes to Rodimer and his family for it. Rodimer is a Republican attempting to unseat incumbent Susie Lee in Nevada’s 3rd Congressional District.

CORRECTION: On Sept. 2, the Sun published this correction and apology on our Aug. 24 editorial on Nevada congressional candidate Dan Rodimer. In the original version of our correction, we relied on reports from The Associated Press and elsewhere saying that Rodimer had pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge in 2010 after entering a deferred prosecution agreement. That information was incorrect, however. On Sept. 8, the AP issued a correction on its reporting, saying that while Rodimer had admitted to committing the offense of battery in the deferred prosecution agreement, he did not plead guilty to the charge. Instead, he completed an anger management course and prosecutors agreed not to continue the case against him. The Sun, based on our own reporting, concurs with the AP’s correction. Our original correction has been revised accordingly. | (September 8, 2020)
