A screen grab from the body camera of a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper shows the car that slammed into the back of a stopped patrol SUV.

A Nevada Highway Patrol trooper had a "close call" over the weekend on Interstate 15 near Allegiant Stadium, when a suspected impaired driver slammed into the back of his stopped patrol SUV.

The incident occurred about 1 a.m. Saturday, Trooper Travis Smaka said.

The trooper had pulled over to check out a stopped car in a travel lane, Smaka said, noting that no one suffered serious injuries.

The crash was captured on the trooper's body camera.

In the footage, the trooper stood next to the stopped car's passenger side, looking toward oncoming traffic. Screeching tires can be heard as the trooper quickly moves away.

Immediately after the crash, the calm-demeanor trooper lets dispatch know someone struck his patrol car, and that lanes of traffic needed to be blocked.

The suspect's car and the patrol SUV took the brunt of the damage. The DUI suspect was arrested, Smaka said, but additional details on who they were or what counts they were booked under weren't immediately available.
