A man accused of fatally stabbing his ex-girlfriend whom he met Friday night at a convenience store to return some property was taken into custody on Monday.

Mark Wayne Meade, 40, was being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center on one count of murder. He didn’t make his initial court hearing Tuesday morning for a “medical” reason, Las Vegas Justice Court logs show.

Metro Police were called out about 8:30 p.m. to a convenience store near Buffalo and Westcliff drives where they found a woman fatally wounded.

Reports identified the victim as Kathy Blanco, 30. Her mother witnessed her slaying, Lt. Ray Spencer said.

The couple had just broken up and moved out of an apartment but had agreed to meet at a public place to exchange some belongings, Spencer said.

Blanco did everything right by meeting him in public and bringing her mother along, Spencer said.

Meade took off running after the stabbing but was arrested in a neighborhood located about a quarter-mile from the crime scene by a task force that comprises the FBI and local police, Metro said.

A copy of Meade’s arrest report wasn’t immediately available Tuesday afternoon.
