YERINGTON — Lawmakers in a rural Nevada county who decided 3-2 last month not to name a road for former President Donald Trump now are considering putting his name on their court, jail and sheriff’s office.

Lyon County commissioners have scheduled debate Thursday on a bid to name the Justice Complex in Yerington after Trump, the Reno Gazette-Journal reported.

A proclamation proposed by commission Chairwoman Vida Keller credits Trump with filling hundreds of federal judicial positions, enforcing U.S. immigration laws and solving what it calls "the humanitarian crisis across the Western Hemisphere.”

Lyon County, with about 57,500 residents in a sprawling area southeast of Reno, votes solidly Republican. Trump drew 69% of presidential ballots cast last November in communities including Yerington, Fernley and Dayton. Democrat Joe Biden drew 28%, but won Nevada and the nationwide vote for president.

Keller and Commissioner Ken Gray lost a July 15 vote to rename a Dayton road to honor Trump. The thoroughfare is home to a senior center, a branch library and a school.

One commissioner who originally favored that proposal said he reconsidered over concerns about issues including Trump’s impeachment trials. Trump was impeached twice by the U.S. House and acquitted twice by the Senate.
