A DUI suspect ran a red light this morning, striking a car and killing its two occupants at the St. Rose Parkway and Las Vegas Boulevard South intersection, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
The suspect, who survived the crash, was in custody at University Medical Center, where he is being treated for injuries, Trooper Ashlee Wellman said this afternoon.
The crash was reported shortly after 9 a.m.
The DUI suspect was driving a GMC pickup truck that smashed into a Honda Pilot at the intersection, Wellman said.
The car’s driver was killed at the scene, while the passenger died after being flown to UMC, Wellman said.
She spoke about the “severe cost” of motorists driving impaired. “There are honestly no words for it,” she said.
Motorists were advised to avoid the intersection while the intersection continued this afternoon.
