The mother of a toddler abandoned in a Strip casino bathroom in late December has been arrested in California, Metro Police announced Thursday.

Mariam Olayinka Ramos, 26, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals and Metro’s Major Violators unit on Wednesday, police said in a news release.

Ramos, who is awaiting extradition, is facing one count of child abuse or neglect, according to Las Vegas Justice Court records. A warrant for her arrest was granted on Jan. 11.

The 3-year-old girl was found in a women’s bathroom at the Wynn on Dec. 29, police said.

Ramos, police said, was seen on surveillance video wearing a blond wig with a ponytail and walking with a child after taking a taxi to the Fashion Show mall, the Associated Press reported.

The cabdriver told police about the woman asking where the nearest shelter is located. According to Nevada statute, parents can safely give up children within the first 30 days after being born with no repercussions if they do so at a hospital, fire station or emergency care facility.

The child, who was placed in Clark County Child Protective Services, wasn’t injured when she was found, police said.
