Police: Man struck by SUV in east valley road rage dispute has died

An elderly man critically injured during a road-rage confrontation Tuesday afternoon in east Las Vegas has since died, according to Metro Police.

The man, described by police as being in his mid-70s, was rushed to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center in “extremely critical condition” after he was run over by an SUV about 2:20 p.m. on Desert Inn Road near Boulder Highway.

Lt. Ray Spencer this evening confirmed his death. Two people were detained Tuesday, although it wasn’t clear if they’re facing any charges or if they’ve been arrested.

According to a preliminary investigation cited by Spencer on Tuesday, the elderly man honked at a Chevrolet Suburban that cut off his Jeep.

Someone in the SUV got out and threw something at the Jeep, Spencer said.

That’s when the elderly man exited his vehicle, and the confrontation further escalated, Spencer said.

At some point, as the elderly man was standing in front of the SUV, its driver accelerated and hit him and then took off, Spencer said.

A patrol officer pulled over the Suburban in the area and two people were detained.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will name the man after his family identifies him.
