A Metro Police officer shot and critically wounded a man found with a knife today in a northeast Las Vegas desert area, Capt. Sasha Larkin said.
Before he was shot, the man refused to drop the knife and advanced toward the officer, Larkin said.
Police received a 911 call about noon regarding a “possibly armed” man walking near Lamb Boulevard and Carey Avenue, Larkin said.
Responding alone, the officer spotted the man, who was bleeding from his neck and hands, Larkin said. He was holding a knife, she said.
The officer opened fire as the man approached him, Larkin said.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries, Larkin said.
The officer will be identified within 48 hours. Metro is expected to share more detailed information, including the release body-camera footage, within three days, per department policy.
This was Metro’s third officer-involved shooting this year.
