A man was slain and his suspected killer was detained following a shooting Wednesday afternoon at a southeast Las Vegas extended-stay hotel, according to Metro Police.

ShotSpotter gunshot detection technology alerted Metro of multiple blasts about 2:45 p.m. at the Sportsman’s Royal Manor in the 5600 block of South Boulder Highway, near Tropicana Avenue, Lt. Ray Spencer said.

The victim, who was struck multiple times, died at Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, Spencer said.

He and a woman had arrived at the suspect’s unit to talk to him about an ongoing property dispute, said Spencer, citing a preliminary investigation.

At some point, the suspect pulled out a knife and a struggle ensued, which left the victim and the woman with cuts, Spencer said. The woman was treated and released from a hospital.

As they were fleeing, the suspect exited his unit with a gun and opened fire, said Spencer, noting that it wasn’t being considered a case of self-defense.

Officers detained the suspect, and homicide detectives were trying to interview him, Spencer said. As of Wednesday evening, it wasn’t clear if he’d been arrested and booked.

Investigators were interviewing several potential witnesses, Spencer said.

Additional details were not immediately available.
