A Las Vegas Academy of the Arts teacher is accused of having a sexual relationship with a student, Clark County School District Police said today.
Lawrence Joseph Artl III turned himself in Tuesday into the Clark County Detention Center, where he was booked on one count of a school employee engaging in a sexual relationship with a student over the age of 16, and two counts of preventing or dissuading a person from testifying.
Artl, 37, who walked out from jail on his own recognizance that day, was ordered to not have contact with the victim, alleged witnesses or any minors, Las Vegas Justice Court logs show.
The alleged crimes — one count a felony and the other two misdemeanors — occurred in November 2019, court logs indicate. The case was filed on April 21.
An affidavit outlining the allegations has not been made public, and an attempt to reach Artl’s attorney on record was not immediately successful.
