The Bureau of Land Management is asking the public to comment on a proposed solar project west of Las Vegas.
The agency is holding two virtual forums in December on the Copper Rays Solar Project on 8 square miles in the Pahrump Valley, about 40 miles from Las Vegas.
Copper Rays Solar LLC is seeking an easement from the Bureau of land Management for a 700 MW solar facility, battery storage and for a connection to the regional transmission system.
Federal officials said they will weigh the public comment in deciding whether to process the right-of-way application. Comments also can be submitted in writing.
“This important engagement will ensure that we can help meet the nation’s needs for renewable energy while we continue to sustain the health, diversity and productivity of public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations," said Nick Pay, the manager of the bureau's Pahrump office.
