Isaiah Lauofo had three touchdowns runs in the first quarter tonight for the Liberty football team in a 39-7 victory against visiting Palo Verde in the season opener.
The scores — on runs of 5, 34 and 33 yards — could potentially set the tone for the rest of the season.
“Isaiah is not a big kid as far as his height, but he is super powerful” Liberty coach Rich Muraco said. “He broke a lot of tackles and put a lot of momentum in our favor.”
Tyrese Smith passed for three touchdowns and a 150 yards, finding Landon Bell for two scoring strikes and Ethan Hillard for one.
“Our offense came out clicking right away and our offensive line did a great job,” Muraco said.
But, the coach stressed, it was far from a perfect outing. Liberty had a punt blocked and missed a few extra points.
“We’ve got plenty to work on,” he said.
