On the first play of the first game in the Rancho football season Malik McHugh returned the opening kickoff 80 yards for touchdown, paving the way for the Rams to win 59-6 against Pinecrest.
Toby Sayphone rushed for 173 yards and four touchdowns on eight carries as Rancho — one of Nevada’s oldest schools — overwhelmed Pinecrest, a charter school playing in its first game.
“Regardless of who you play, it’s always nice to get a win on Week 1,” Rancho coach Leon Evans said. “We have a lot to clean up, but this gives us momentum to carry into practice.”
Jeremy Evans had two carries for 82 yards and a touchdown for Rancho, who also received a touchdown from Lebron Dorsey and Sircorey Dailey.
