The Silverado football team appears to again be the team to beat in the class 4A.

The defending state champions opened the season Friday by doing something it didn’t do last year in its historic 12-0 season — it played and beat a 5A opponent. And beat them in convincing fashion.

Brandon Tunnell completed 12 of 15 passes for 298 yards and four touchdowns, as the Skyhawks made a statement with a 57-7 victory against host Centennial.

Top recruit Donovan Pellot was as good as advertised in logging 107 receiving yards and two touchdowns, and rushing four times for 93 yards.

Caden Harris scored three ways — on an 80-yard kick return, a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown. He finished more than 250 total yards.

Marcus Council had a rushing and receiving touchdown, Tristan Hudson rushed for a score, and Bryson Tunnell had 107 yards receiving.
