Bishop Gorman baseball coach Chris Sheff has water poured on him during the post game celebration after Gorman’s Legion affiliate won the World Series.

Coach Chris Sheff is returning to the Bishop Gorman baseball dugout, the school announced this afternoon.

Sheff built Gorman into a national power in the mid-2000s, leading the school to its first baseball state title in 2006 and posting a 228-45-2 record over seven seasons. He left in 2010 for a college job and ultimately got into coaching at Southern Nevada Baseball, a successful youth developmental program.

The program rose to national acclaim, winning a mythical national high school title and also capturing the American Legion World Series.

It produced 25 professional players, including slugger Joey Gallo and Mariners reliever Paul Sewald.

In statement Gorman officials said, “We are excited to welcome him back to Bishop Gorman and look forward what his experience will bring to the program.“

Sheff replaces Gino DiMaria, who resigned after the spring season where Gorman lost to Basic Academy in the state title game, the school said. DiMaria coached Gorman to the state title in 2015.
