President Joe Biden speaks about the government’s COVID-19 response, in the South Court Auditorium in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building on the White House Campus in Washington, Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022.

Laughlin residents now have access to free COVID-19 self-test kits in an effort to fight health disparities in high-risk populations, the Southern Nevada Health District announced today.

People interested in claiming a test must first register at www.snhd.info/testkit, the Health District said in a release. A pin will be issued once registration is completed, and residents will have access to receive five free tests per month, available at any of the three COVID-19 test kit vending machines across Clark County — including the newest one at Laughlin Regional Government Center, 101 Civic Way, 89029.

Tests at the Laughlin site will be accessible Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., according to the release. The vending machines are also located at the Regional Transportation Commission's Bonneville Transit Center, 101 E. Bonneville Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89101, and the Mesa View Regional Hospital emergency department lobby at 1299 Bertha Howe Ave., Mesquite, NV 89027.

The project was funded with support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's initiative to address COVID-19 health disparities deemed high risk for infection for underserved communities, the Health District said. This includes minority and rural groups, according to the release.

In the release, SNHD District Health Officer Dr. Fermin Leguen, said the move was important as the county continues to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

Getting test results takes about 15 minutes, according to the release. If a positive test result is received, the person testing should self-isolate for at least five days, in accordance to guidelines by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. If you are not feeling any symptoms after five days, you can leave isolation but mask around others for five more days, according to the Health District.
