Spring Valley linebacker Colton Jones returned an interception for a touchdown, and the Grizzlies start 2-0 thanks to a 34-14 road win over Cimarron-Memorial on Friday night.

"Even this summer, we preached one game at a time, doing one thing at a time and do it well," Spring Valley coach Marcus Teal said. "Once we got to the fall, it's a one-game mentality. Each game is the big one."

Spring Valley's defense has carried over well in Teal's eyes from last season. The offense struggled to score, but the defense was a strong point. This year, led by senior defensive end Kelze Howard and corner Dylan Phelps, the Grizzlies feel they have a core to make a strong push this season.

The Grizzlies will host Perry (AZ) next week, a game Teal's brother-in-law wanted to make happen. He's the athletics administrator at Perry.

"He kinda talked me into this," Teal said. "I know what kind of team they are through him and following him the last few years. I didn't want it at first, but I was like, 'we need to get a game on our schedule that's going to make people turn and look at us.'
