Las Vegas man sentenced for possession of child porn

A Las Vegas man was sentenced to prison Monday for attempted receipt of child pornography and possession of child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.

Jonathan Robert Risse-Santos pleaded guilty to both charges in February, after requesting nude images and discussing engaging in sexual activity with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl beginning in March 2021.

Risse-Santos, 30, used multiple instant messaging apps to communicate with the child and agreed to meet her at her home, where he was arrested by law enforcement.

A search of his cell phone revealed nearly 260 images and six videos of child sexual abuse material, the attorney’s office said.

The case against Risse-Santos was investigated by the FBI, North Las Vegas Police and Metro Police as part of Project Safe Childhood — a nationwide, Department of Justice initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Supriya Prasad.

U.S. District Judge Andrew P. Gordon sentenced Risse-Santos to 84 months in prison, followed by a lifetime of supervised release. He will also be required to register as a sex offender, the attorney’s office said.
