Man sentenced to nearly 20 years for series of armed robberies in Las Vegas

A Las Vegas man has been sentenced to nearly two decades in prison, after pleading guilty in September to the armed robbery of six businesses, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Nevada.

U.S. District Judge Andrew P. Gordon on Tuesday sentenced Jonathan Nagel to 18 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release, the attorney’s office said. Nagel, 25, had pleaded guilty to six counts of interference of commerce by robbery, one count of brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence and one count of failure to appear.

Between January and August 2021, Nagel committed six armed robberies of gas station convenience stores in North Las Vegas and Las Vegas, the attorney’s office said. In each robbery, he pretended to make a purchase at the checkout counter, pointed a firearm at the clerk and demanded money from the cash register.

Nagel was arrested in August 2021, and told authorities at the time that he had planned for a seventh robbery, the attorney’s office said. He was released on pretrial supervision but cut off his GPS monitor and fled three days before he was due to self-surrender in March. He was apprehended in Arizona later that month, the attorney’s office said.

The case against Nagel was investigated by the FBI, North Las Vegas Police and Metro Police, the attorney’s office said. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Bianca Pucci.
