She already pushed back the opening of her new residency show at Resorts World Theatre due to health issues, and now Celine Dion has canceled the remaining North American concerts along her Courage World Tour route. The superstar singer announced on January 15 that the severe and persistent muscle spasms that have prevented her from performing continue to persist and her recovery is taking longer than expected. The many canceled tour dates stretch through March and April, with the European leg still currently scheduled to begin on May 25 in Birmingham, England. Hopefully Dion can pick up as planned in the spring and finish this year’s European run on September 24 in Paris. That would potentially open up fall and holiday season dates for Dion in Las Vegas, as nothing is currently scheduled at Resorts World after May. Next up at that beautiful new theater is the debut of Luke Bryan’s residency show on February 11.
David Foster hinted at returning to the Strip this year for additional shows at Wynn when we spoke recently. And this week Encore Theater announced Foster will be back on April 20, 22 and 23, following the great sales for his show this Friday, January 21. Other Vegas show announcements this week include: Hard rockers Clutch will perform at Brooklyn Bowl on March 25; Legendary Los Angelenos Los Lobos will play the Railhead at Boulder Station on May 6; U.K. pop band Bastille will land at the Theater at Virgin on May 18; Country artist Chris Janson plays the Backyard Amphitheater at Green Valley Ranch Resort on May 28; Metal faves Slipknot will bring its Knotfest Roadshow tour, including guests Cypress Hill and Ho99o9, to MGM Grand Garden Arena on June 17; And pop-rock trio Hanson’s Red Green Blue world tour brings the group to Brooklyn Bowl on September 6.
Penn & Teller celebrated a magical 21st anniversary at the Rio on January 13, marking the occasion with a celebration with cast, crew and staff. So few Vegas shows have two decades’ worth of performances in the rearview, let alone at the same casino property. “Our show is finally of age and legal to gamble on the casino floor after all these years,” joked Penn Jillette. “We could not have done it without the dedication of our crew or the long partnership with Caesars Entertainment. Now that we are legal, we can start to have some real fun in Vegas over the next 21!” Catch them at 9 p.m. Thursday through Monday at the Penn & Teller Theater.
The winner and a finalist from the HBO Max TV series “Finding Magic Mike” — filmed recently in Las Vegas, mostly at the Sahara — are joining the cast of “Magic Mike Live” starting on January 27. Johnny Dutch, a North Carolina runner who was selected as the top contestant in the innovative reality show, and Nate Bryan, a former minor league baseball player from Indiana, will be stepping onstage with the rest of the talented crew at the custom Magic Mike Live Theater at Sahara for performances through May. As I reported in Las Vegas Weekly earlier this week, Light Nightclub finally brings the party back to Mandalay Bay next month. On Tuesday, the club announced its opening acts: Wyclef Jean will perform on February 11, followed by country artist Sam Hunt on February 12. Book your table at thelightvegas.com.
Also covered earlier by Weekly, the punk and emo-rock festival When We Were Young is coming to the Strip at the Las Vegas Festival Grounds on October 22, further answering the question of whether that site across from the Sahara will continue to be a music festival destination after changing ownership in the Circus Circus sale of 2019. It will also host the R&B-flavored Lovers & Friends fest in May.
Win-Win Entertainment, a Las Vegas-based nonprofit organization founded by former Strip headliner Jeff Civillico that brings live entertainment to kids in need, will be the beneficiary of the first Mondays Dark show of 2022, set for 8 p.m. January 24 at The Space. The music of Britney Spears will be performed by local entertainers including Katie Murdock, Katie Marie Jones, Kitty Del Mar, Christina Shaw and more. “All Shook Up,” likely the best-known and most popular Elvis tribute show currently running in Las Vegas, has changed rooms. After several years at the V Theater at the Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood, it takes up residency this week at the Pegasus Showroom at the Alexis Park Resort, just east of the Strip. “Shook Up” showtimes are 6 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and 8 p.m. Thursday through Monday, with tickets at Ticketkite.
The Failed to Render hybrid live and virtual comedy show set for January 29 at StarBase has a new lineup. Drew Marks, Cory “Showtime” Robinson, Tommy Sinbazo and Mateen Stewart will hit the stage starting at 9 p.m., also entertaining participants from home watching via Microsoft’s Altspace VR.
