Police in Las Vegas say one adult and two students were hospitalized Monday after as shooting in a neighborhood near a high school.

Metro Police Capt. Kristine Buist told reporters that initial reports that five people had been injured were premature.

Buist said the three wounded people made their own way to a hospital where they were being treated for unspecified injuries.

Two of the injured were teenagers, said Officer Larry Hadfield, a department spokesman. All three were male. Their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.

Clark County School District police Sgt. Bryan Zink said the gunfire occurred between two vehicles off-campus near Chaparral High School, where students and staff had been evacuated due to a small fire in a school restroom.

Buist noted the gunfire did not occur on school property. She said the bathroom fire and the shooting did not appear to be related.

School police and Las Vegas gang unit detectives were handling the investigation, Buist said..

No injuries were reported due to the fire. Zink didn’t have an immediate damage assessment.
