A Palo Verde High School teacher was arrested Wednesday on counts of drug possession and engaging in sex with a student, according to Clark County School District Police.

Michael Loyd, 34, was arrested and booked in the Clark County Detention Center where he remained as of Thursday morning on counts of gross lewdness, engaging in sex with a pupil 16 or older and possession of a dangerous drug without a prescription, the department said in a release.

Loyd has been a teacher with CCSD since January 2016, and he has been assigned to home pending an investigation, police said. No further details were immediately available.

Loyd made an initial appearance Thursday in Las Vegas Justice Court and is scheduled to appear again Wednesday, according to his case file. It’s not clear if an attorney is representing Loyd at this time.

School district police ask that anyone with information about the case or anyone who may have had “questionable” contact with Loyd call 702-799-5411.
