Police: 2nd Las Vegas bicyclist dies after multivehicle crash

A Las Vegas bicyclist critically injured Friday after a suspected impaired driver caused a multivehicle crash near UNLV has died, according to Metro Police.

The 36-year-old bicyclist's death was the second in the 10-vehicle crash that killed another bicyclist and injured seven people, police said.

Marcos Francisco Benitez, 27, was driving a pickup truck about 5:30 p.m. on Flamingo Road when he hit an SUV from behind near Claymont Street, police said.

He continued driving and struck the two bicyclists before driving off and colliding with multiple vehicles stopped at the intersection of Flamingo and Maryland Parkway, police said.

A 37-year-old bicyclist from Las Vegas was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other cyclist was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center, where they died, police said.

Six other people in different vehicles suffered minor or moderate injuries, police said.

Benitez was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries and booked on multiple DUI and hit-and-run counts, police said.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.
