Tourists Return to Vegas

Tourists are shown at the Fremont Street Experience in downtown Las Vegas Saturday, April 17, 2021.

Nearly as many visitors came to Las Vegas in October as did during the same month in 2019, according to a report by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

Just over 3.6 million tourists spent time in Las Vegas last month, less than 1% off from the visitation total in October 2019.

The barometer for the ongoing tourism comeback is 2019, because that was the last full year with no coronavirus-related disruptions.

When compared to the visitation figure for October of last year, last month’s total was up over 7%.

The October numbers were particularly strong within the convention and meetings segment, according to the report.

More than 628,000 people visited Las Vegas for a convention last month, up 32% from 2021 and up 20% from 2019.

Hotel occupancy in Las Vegas hovered around 88% in October, up 6% from October 2021 but down 2% from October 2019.

Still, the hotels — Las Vegas boasts nearly 151,000 hotel rooms — showed healthy results for average daily room rates.

The average rates for a room in October settled at just under $210 per night, up 51% from October 2019 and 21% from the same month last year, according to the report.

With two months left to report this year, Las Vegas has tallied just under 32.3 million visitors for the year. That’s a little over 3 million visitors short of the pace through the first 10 months of 2019.

In 2021, Las Vegas counted 26 million visitors through October and finished the year with about 32 million visitors.

Las Vegas welcomed over 42 million visitors in 2019.
