Police: Man shot dead in Las Vegas parking lot

Metro Police said they were searching for a suspect who fled after fatally shooting a man today in a parking lot.

Officers responded about 9:30 a.m. to a report of gunshots in the area of Sahara and Karen avenues, Lt. Jason Johansson said.

A witness flagged down an officer on his motorcycle and directed him to the scene in the 2700 block of South Maryland Parkway, he said. The victim, a man who appeared in his 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene, Johansson said.

The victim and an unknown blond-haired man were in an altercation before the suspect pulled out a gun and shot the victim, Johansson said.

Police do not know the nature of the argument, but the slaying does not seem random, Johansson said.

Karen was shut down between State Street and Maryland as police canvassed the neighborhood and continued to investigate the homicide, Johansson said.
