Enrique Iglesias is set to make his Resorts World Theatre debut during Mexican Independence Day weekend.

Pop singer Enrique Iglesias, famously part of the “Latin explosion” that took over the American music scene in the late 1990s with hits like “Bailamos,” has been performing live in Las Vegas during Mexican Independence Day weekend for years now. Although he’s Spanish, the son of the legendary Julio Iglesias — a marquee name in Vegas entertainment history — is one of many Latin stars that return to play to their fans from all over the world during the annual El Grito celebration along the Strip.

But this year brings two extra-special concerts by Iglesias, who is performing for the first time at Resorts World Las Vegas. He’s taking over the Resort World Theatre on September 16 and 17, with ticket information available at rwlasvegas.com.

“I’ve played a lot of different venues in Vegas. The last time I was there, it was MGM Grand, and before that, it was Caesars Palace,” Iglesias said. “This one is the newest and hopefully the greatest. And I’m so excited because [these shows] are part of the same show we have been building since last year, with a few new things added in.”

Iglesias is planning to expand his stripped-down acoustic set in the middle of the concert, but he also expects to add a few more songs that will play into the tremendous production capabilities of the new theater, which opened in December 2021 with country star Carrie Underwood’s “Reflection” residency show.

“A lot of it is going to depend on rehearsals, but that stage is huge. The screen is massive and we have a lot of great content, which is another cool thing about this venue,” he said.

Katy Perry and Luke Bryan have also launched residencies at Resorts World in the past year, and Celine Dion is expected to do the same when her health issues subside. But Iglesias isn’t interested in signing on for a recurring gig like those any time soon.

“To be honest, they’ve asked me to do that multiple times,” he said. “I personally like playing Vegas a lot but I don’t know if I see myself doing a residency, just because I still like to travel and go to different places.”

Iglesias announced last year that he’s in the process of recording what will be his final album, but clearly he has no plans to slow down touring and performing.

“I’m definitely trying to finish ‘Final Vol. 2’ and I want to make sure that’s right and not be rushed,” he said. “I think I’m going to keep on touring, but … I don’t plan so far ahead right now. These shows are the only thing on my mind and the only ones I’m doing the rest of this year, so if you want to catch a show, this is the only place to see me.”

Other major Latin music events coming up this weekend include: Alejandro Fernández at MGM Grand Garden Arena on September 15 and 17; Grupo Firme at Allegiant Stadium on September 15; Gloria Trevi at Michelob Ultra Arena on September 16; Pitbull at Zappos Theater on September 16 and 17; and Emmanuel at the Colosseum on September 17.
