Torrell Harley had two rushing touchdowns and Elijah Espinoza added another tonight for the Las Vegas High football team in a 35-7 victory against host Rancho in the annual “Bone Game.”
It marks the 25th straight game Las Vegas has beaten Rancho. The game had been played in the past two years because of the pandemic, meaning Las Vegas has had the rivalry trophy 27 years running.
“There is a sense of relief in keeping the bone,” Las Vegas coach Erick Capetillo said. “The bone means a lot of us. It means a lot to Rancho. I am glad we got to keep it home.”
Garrett Hughes had a fumble recovery for a touchdown, and Espinoza connected with Stephan Hunt for a passing touchdown.
While the rivalry has been lopsided in recent years, Capetillo raved about the fight of the Rancho players. Rancho had an eight-minute scoring drive in the third quarter to keep the game from becoming a blowout.
“Rancho has really stepped up its game. Those kids are getting better,” Capetillo said.
