Second homeless person found slain east of the Las Vegas Strip

A homeless woman was found stabbed to death this morning east of the Las Vegas Strip, the second homeless person killed in the area, Metro Police said.

“It’s very concerning for us,” Metro Lt. Jason Johansson said. “We take it very seriously.”

Police did not say whether they believe the incidents are related.

A person on their way to a laundromat discovered the woman about 6:55 a.m. near Algonquin Drive and Flamingo Road, police said. The area is near the UNLV campus.

The name of the victim, whom police said was in her 70s, was not released. Police do not know when the stabbing took place, Johansson said.

Police are also investigating the stabbing death of another homeless woman last week just a few blocks away, Johansson said.

The incident was reported about 6:10 p.m. Wednesday in the 1400 block of East University Avenue, police said.

A woman appeared to have been sleeping outside a business when she was stabbed by an unknown male, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

No arrests have been made in either case, police said.
