Micah Alejado completed 11 of 14 passes for 214 yards and four touchdowns Friday night for the Bishop Gorman football team in a 65-0 win against host Arbor View.

Coach Brent Browner raved about the efforts of the junior Alejado, who also rushed five times for 110 yards and a touchdown. “He came to play,” the coach said.

Gorman wasted little time in jumping out to a quick advantage as it led 21-0 six minutes into the game. The game was played under the mercy rule of a running clock in the second half.

Arbor View, a perennial top-5 team in Las Vegas, was expected to give defending state champion Gorman a tougher test in the league opener for both teams. That’s especially true considering Gorman previously has come out sluggish in the debut against local competition after playing a who’s who of national teams in the preseason.

That wasn’t the case Friday.

“Our kids love the game, they love the process of preparing,” Browner said. “They prepared for this game like it was an out-of-state opponent. Arbor View had our attention.”

Browner said linebacker Jamih Otis had a strong game, often lining up in the secondary on a special assignment to shadow Arbor View standout Juice Washington.

“It shows his versatility,” Browner said. “We took a linebacker and he played defensive back, and was great going into coverage.”

DeVon Rice has one carry for a 72-yard touchdown and two receptions for 40 yards and a touchdown, while Micah Kaapana rushed for 64yards and a touchdown on four carries.

Elijah Palmer had three catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns, and Zachariah Branch had four catches for 55 yards and a score.
