2 confirmed dead in plane crash south of Las Vegas

Two people are dead after a plane crashed soon after takeoff from around Kidwell Airport at about 5 a.m. Tuesday, according to officials. 

The National Transportation Safety Board, which investigates plane crashes, plans to be on the scene Wednesday, spokesman Keith Holloway said via email. 

“It is very early in the investigation and there is not much information available at this time,” Holloway said. 

He said the plane crashed in Cal-Nev-Ari – a town of about a couple hundred people in Clark County and about 70 miles south of Las Vegas.

Kidwell Airport sits on U.S. 95 in Cal-Nev-Ari. 

The Clark County Fire Department confirmed two were dead at about 11:30 a.m., per a news release No other information was released by the department. 

Holloway said an investigator will document the scene, examine the remains aircraft, request any air traffic communications, radar data, weather reports and contact any witnesses. 

“Also, the investigator will request maintenance records of the aircraft, and medical records and flight history of the pilot,” Holloway said. 

A preliminary report could be released in about 10 to 12 business days, he said. A full investigation could take 12 to 24 months to determine the cause.
