Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. has announced details for the show that will be presented at the MSG Sphere when it opens behind Venetian on the Las Vegas Strip later this year — and we’re not talking about that massive U2 concert residency. Sphere Experiences will be opening this fall, targeting October, launching with an immersive production called “Postcard from Earth.” The show is described as a 60-minute “multi-sensory storytelling journey providing audiences with a first-of-its-kind shared experience at an unparalleled scale.” Like other Sphere Experience presentations, it will run multiple times per day, year-round on the high-resolution LED screens wrapping around inside the theater. Tickets for “Postcard from Earth” go on sale today, April 12 at thespherevegas.com. “Sphere provides a new medium for directors, artists, and brands to create experiences that cannot be seen or told anywhere else, and Sphere Experiences are just one of the ways we will use the venue’s technologies to engage the senses and transport audiences to places both real and imagined,” MSG Entertainment executive chairman and CEO James Dolan said in a statement. “‘Postcard from Earth’ will set a new bar for multi-sensory storytelling possibilities, and we look forward to having audiences experience it at Sphere this fall.”

Katy Perry recently told me she could see herself returning to Las Vegas for different residencies or concert productions in the future, but it appears as if the stunning world she created with “Play” at Resorts World Theatre is coming to an end. The pop star, the resort and AEG Presents announced the final dates of her musical spectacular will run from October 4 through November 4, tacking on 10 concerts to a plethora of previously scheduled shows continuing this week and running through mid-August. “Play” made its debut in December 21 and was nominated for Best Residency in the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards.

One of music’s biggest breakthrough stars in the last year is extending her current tour and putting a Vegas stop on the itinerary. SZA will bring the S.O.S. Tour to T-Mobile Arena on October 28 and tickets go on sale April 14 at axs.com.

Here’s the rest of this week’s entertainment even announcements: The Bull 95.5’s Country’s Next Big Thing series continues with a show from Josiah Siska at the Fremont Street Experience First Street Stage on April 20; the Lovers & Friends festival pre-party, RnB Block Party, will take over the Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan on May 5, hosted by Jermaine Dupri with sets from DJ Aktive, DJ Carisma and Izzy The DJ; Air Supply returns to the Orleans Showroom on May 26-27; Melissa Etheridge brings her huge new summer tour to the Pearl Concert Theater at the Palms on July 7; John Lodge of The Moody Blues will take the stage at the Smith Center on July 28; rapper Lil Baby returns to Las Vegas to play T-Mobile Arena on August 4; the great Gladys Knight will perform at the Smith Center for the first time on August 18; Peter Frampton’s Never Say Never Tour lands at the Pearl on August 18; cumbia legends Los Ángeles Azules will celebrate El Grito at Bakkt Theater at Planet Hollywood on September 16; rock-and-rollers Devon Allman and Donavan Frankenreiter bring their See It All American Tour to Brooklyn Bowl on September 20; Japanese metal band Babymetal and Adult Swim TV group Dethklok team up for a show at the Pearl on October 8; Billy Idol will be back at the Chelsea for five nights of iconic punk attitude October 20-28; award-winning country star Jordan Davis will play the Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas on October 21; and jazz fusion outfit Special EFX All Stars featuring Chieli Minucci, Maysa, Jeff Kashiwa and Lao Tizer will perform at the Chrome Showroom at Santa Fe Station on October 28.

“Jersey Shore” star Vinny Guadagnino is set to return to the Rio for a fifth engagement as special guest host and performer at Chippendales. His six-week run starts on August 31 and is sure to be another sell-out. The whole cast of “Jersey Shore Family Vacation” got a look at Guadagnino’s onstage skills in recent years when the show followed the family to Las Vegas for a party weekend. Tickets are waiting at chippendales.com.
