The baggage systems in two terminals at Harry Reid International Airport will be upgraded through a $31 million federal grant.

The money comes from the bipartisan infrastructure law’s airport terminal program.

“As a record number of post-pandemic travelers return to the skies and to Las Vegas, I’ve worked tirelessly to advocate for and secure critical support for Harry Reid International Airport,” U.S. Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., said in a statement.

“By replacing aging infrastructure, this $31 million in new funding will enhance the air travel experience, address pressing capacity needs and better accommodate every new visitor,” said Titus, whose 1st Congressional District includes the airport.

Terminal 1 upgrades will include new conveyors, carousels and standby power systems, officials said. At Terminal 3, the enhancements will include a new control system corresponding with the new Terminal 1 system.

The changes will enhance the capacity, security and energy efficiency of the handling system, officials said.

The airport is seeing record passenger numbers, and the grant announced today “will improve the travel experience of the millions who come through Las Vegas each year,” U.S. Sen. Cortez Masto, D-Nev., said in a statement.

The Las Vegas airport served 52.6 million passengers in 2022 and is enhancing its infrastructure to meet the demand of future growth, said Rosemary Vassiliadis, Clark County director of aviation.

“We are thankful to all the members of the Nevada congressional delegation who voted for this historic investment in airports and supported this project,” Vassiliadis said in a statement. “These allocated funds will allow us to modernize our baggage handling systems, providing an enhanced customer experience.”
