Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Logan Thompson (36) cools off during a NHL hockey game against the St. Louis Blues on Friday, Dec. 23, 2022, in Las Vegas.

In his first year as a full-time starter in the NHL, Logan Thompson is an all-star.

The Golden Knights goalie was named the team's representative for the midseason classic, the league announced Thursday. This year's All-Star Game will take place in Sunrise, Fla. on Feb. 4.

Thompson is the first rookie goalie to be named an all-star since Anaheim's John Gibson was picked in 2016.

The Calgary native is one of three members of the Pacific Division making their All-Star Game debuts. Seattle rookie forward Matty Beniers and Los Angeles Kings forward Kevin Fiala will represent their clubs for the first time. Edmonton star Connor McDavid is playing in his sixth game, while San Jose defenseman and presumptive Norris Trophy favorite Erik Karlsson is going to the game for a seventh time.

Thompson has played his way to one of the favorites for the Calder Trophy as the rookie of the year, and has developed a strong case to be the clubhouse leader. He's 18-9-1 this season with a 2.61 goals-against average and .915 save percentage.

The 25-year-old's 18 wins are tied for third-most in the NHL behind only Connor Hellebuyck and Linus Ullmark. He's one of 14 goalies to register multiple shutouts (two).

Fans will get the chance to vote for the final 12 spots on the all-star rosters, three from each team. The Golden Knights' representatives for the final vote are Chandler Stephenson, Jack Eichel, Mark Stone, Reilly Smith and Alex Pietrangelo.

Voting is open until 8:59 p.m. on Jan. 17.
