Former Zuffa executive appointed as Nevada gaming board head

An attorney with decades of experience in the realms of gaming and sports was appointed by Gov. Joe Lombardo to lead the Nevada Gaming Control Board, Lombardo’s office announced today.

In a statement, Lombardo named longtime lawyer Kirk Hendrick as chairman to the Gaming Control Board, the agency tasked with governing Nevada’s largest industry. He brings with him a long list of titles since beginning his career in 1991, according to the release.

“With his sharp business acumen, outstanding legal background, and passion for Nevada gaming, I know that Kirk will excel in this critical leadership role,” Lombardo said in a statement.

Most recently, Hendrick founded Hendrick Sports & Entertainment, a consulting firm, in March 2019, after spending several years in a variety of senior roles with Zuffa, LLC, the onetime parent company of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He started at Zuffa as General Counsel, later became Chief Operating Officer and was ultimately named Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer in November 2012.

Hendrick also worked under former Nevada Attorney General Frankie Sue Del Papa in 1993, in the Attorney General’s Gaming Division, which provides legal counsel to the state’s gaming control board as well as the Nevada Gaming Commission.

Additionally, he went on to serve as Senior Deputy Attorney General for the Gaming Division's Las Vegas Office before being tapped to serve as the Chief Deputy for the statewide Gaming Division. He also worked as legal counsel for the Nevada Athletic Commission.

Hendrick graduated from Chaparral High School in Las Vegas in 1983 and went on to graduate from UNLV in ‘88. In 1991, Hendrick completed law school from the California Western School of Law in San Diego.
