The National Federation of State High School Association in October found that 973,792 students played 11-man high school football. Three of the top players reside at Bishop Gorman in Las Vegas, according to the website MaxPreps.

Gorman quarterback Micah Alejado, wide receiver Trech Kekahuna and defensive back Jeremiah Hughes were among the 60 players picked nationally for the 2022 MaxPreps All-America Team. MaxPreps specializes in covering high school sports across the country.

State champion Gorman, which finished ranked No. 4 nationally, was one of 14 schools with multiple representatives on the team that was announced Wednesday.

“The guys put in the work,” Gorman coach Brent Browner said. “They had a certain motivation about them where they (thrived) in our culture. Not only were they MaxPreps All-Americans, but they also did good things in school and spiritually.”

Alejado, a junior, completed 76% of his passes for 3.575 yards and 54 touchdowns. He had just two interceptions.

Kekahuna, a senior who in December signed with Wisconsin, had 61 receptions for 1,330 yards and 22 touchdowns. And Hughes, a senior who signed with Louisiana State, hauled in seven interceptions.

Browner said many Gorman players had been teammates since youth football and had a certain “brotherhood where they guys are willing to put in work for each other.”

Mythical national champion St. John Bosco of Southern California had seven players on the MaxPreps team, including senior wide receiver DeAndre Moore. Moore played as a freshman at Desert Pines High in Las Vegas.
