Cooling stations are open as temperatures could top 110 this week in Clark County

Clark County announced today that due to more anticipated extreme heat conditions through the weekend, cooling centers will be open across the region. 

Daytime cooling centers will be open those trying to escape the heat. The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning Tuesday, with temperatures expected to exceed 110 degrees starting Friday.

The following cooling centers are open to the public:

Walnut Recreation Center: Monday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Person Community Center: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Hollywood Recreation Center: Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Courtyard Homeless Resource Center: 24 hours a day.

Cambridge Recreation Center: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Alexander Library: Monday and Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Whitney Recreation Center: Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Libraries in Clark County also serve as cooling stations, and there will be two more cooling locations in Laughlin and one in Mesquite, according to county officials.

The American Legion Richard Springston Post 60 at 1510 Bruce Woodbury Drive will operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on days with temperatures over 112 degrees.

The Colorado River Food Bank at 240 Laughlin Civic Drive will be open from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The Salvation Army Mesquite will operate from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

Henderson will be opening cooling centers at their Downtown Recreation Center from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Downtown Senior Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday.
