Las Vegas Aces forward Candace Parker (3) takes the ball upcourt during the first half of a WNBA basketball game against the Connecticut Sun at Michelob Ultra Arena in Mandalay Bay Saturday, July 1, 2023.

Candace Parker underwent surgery on a fractured foot Monday and is out indefinitely, the Las Vegas Aces announced.

Parker had missed the past five games due to a foot injury, but the Aces said Parker has been playing on the fracture all season long.

On Instagram, Parker said after consulting with doctors, the only option was to have the procedure done to avoid further injury.

The Aces said Parker “will work her way towards getting healthy as soon as possible.”

The 37-year-old two-time MVP is averaging career lows with 9.0 points and 5.4 rebounds in 23 minutes a game, but her presence has been critical in the Aces getting off to a 21-2 start. She has not played since July 7; that was the last time Las Vegas lost a game, 80-78 to the Dallas Wings.

Since then, though, the Aces have won five straight games by 16 points or more and have scored at least 97 points in four of those contests.

Leading the way during that stretch has been A’ja Wilson. The reigning league MVP has averaged 23.6 points, 11.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game in Parker’s absence. Wilson had 35 points (on 14 of 17 shooting) and 14 rebounds in Saturday’s 113-89 win at Minnesota.

The Aces will try to extend their winning streak to six games on Tuesday in Chicago to wrap up a four-game road trip following the All-Star break.
