Clark County School District Superintendent Jesus Jara speaks during the 2023 State of the Schools address at Resorts World Las Vegas, Friday, Jan. 27, 2023.

The Clark County School District said it is postponing “Java with Jara” community meetings to focus on ongoing teacher contract negotiations with the Clark County Education Association.

The district announced today that it will postpone the events, which were designed for Superintendent Jesus Jara to get feedback from community members on district issues.

The first in the planned series of events last week, at a coffee shop in Summerlin, included CCEA members demonstrating outside for a new contract.

The district and the union plan to hold negotiation sessions Thursday and Friday.

“To keep the Java with Jara discussions focused on student success and spare the community further interruptions, the Clark County School District is postponing these events until negotiations conclude,” the district said in its announcement. “Our families and community members desiring to dialogue on education issues deserve the superintendent's uninterrupted attention.”

CCEA has not responded to the Sun’s request for comment.
