The Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board has approved the first conditional licenses for three cannabis consumption lounges, two of them in Clark County.

MM Development Co., which owns Planet 13, and Cheyenne Medical Sammy Davis, parent company of Thrive Cannabis Marketplace, were granted licenses.

The Venue at Sol Cannabis in Washoe County was also granted a license, the board announced today.

After a random-number selection event, the board issued 40 lounge prospective licenses in November. The three conditional license holders were on that list.

Prospective license holders are required to submit all necessary documents – including a safety plan to deter driving under the influence – for a suitability investigation by the board.

The next step is the conditional licenses, which green lights operators to move forward. Before receiving final licensure, board agents must conduct a final inspection of the facilities. Only after the final inspection will lounges be allowed to open.

Lounges will also have to follow any local ordinances and receive approval from local jurisdictions, board officials said.

In 2016, voters in Nevada approved Question 2, which paved the way for legal recreational marijuana. But the law only allowed for marijuana use at private residences.

Clark County vommissioners in December voted 6-1 in favor of allowing cannabis consumption lounges.

The board said last year that the first lounges could open this summer.
