San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo runs onto the field before the NFL Super Bowl 54 football game against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020, in Miami Gardens, Fla.

The Las Vegas Raiders have their new quarterback.

Jimmy Garoppolo, who spent the past six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and has experience in Raiders coach Josh McDaniels’ offense, has agreed to a three-year, $67.5 million deal ($34 million guaranteed), according to reports.

The 31-year-old Garoppolo is a proven winner, posting a 40-17 record in games started and leading the 49ers to the Super Bowl in 2019. In 2021, he led them to the NFC Championship game.

Garoppolo is replacing Derek Carr, who was released after nine seasons and signed with the New Orleans Saints. Also, backup Jarrett Stidham reportedly won't be back with the Raiders, leaving for a two-year, $10 million deal with AFC West rival Denver.

Garoppolo has familiarity with the Raiders’ offense after spending the initial three years of his career as the backup in New England, where McDaniels was the offensive coordinator.

Garoppolo started 2022 as the 49ers backup on a reworked contract following his then-record-setting five-year, $137.5 million contract in 2018 but was called into action after starter Trey Lance was injured in Week 2. Garoppolo went on to win seven of 10 starts but suffered an ankle injury to end his season.

Garoppolo has battled durability issues in his 49ers tenure, missing 30 games with a variety of aliments. When healthy, he was successful in passing for 13,599 yards while completing 67% of his passes with 82 touchdowns.

This is the initial day when free agents can begin talking with teams. Here are some of the Raiders needs.
