Man’s death after arrest by Henderson Police being investigated

Henderson Police have opened an investigation into the death of a man that the Clark County Coroner’s Office ruled a homicide due to force used during his arrest, according to a department release.

Ronald Winborne, 53, died at Sunrise Hospital on March 27, several days after his March 21 arrest by the police department.

The release says police first made contact with Winborn in the area of Greenway Road and Horizon Drive after receiving a report of a man swinging a knife at moving vehicles.

Winborne pointed a knife at an officer and was tased, the release says.

Henderson Fire Department provided medical treatment on the scene and cleared him to be transported to Henderson Detention Center.

Winborne was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a public officer, assault with a deadly weapon, resisting a public officer and resisting public officer with a deadly weapon.

Medical staff at the detention center requested that Winborne be reevaluated at the hospital. He was evaluated at St. Rose DeLima Hospital and discharged.

While in custody on March 27, Winborne’s health began to decline and he was transported to Sunrise Hospital where he later died.

The release states that the case remains an open investigation and no other details will be released.
