With an almost 39% increase in traffic fatalities compared to 2023, the number of traffic deaths in Nevada doubled between February and March 2024, according to data from a new report by the Nevada Department of Public Safety.

Ninety-seven people have died in traffic-related incidences in 2024, an almost 39% increase in fatalities compared to 2023, according to the DPS report. Most of those deaths have occurred in Clark County, with over 70 deaths since Jan 1. More than 30 of the deaths in Clark County were pedestrians.

The number of motorcyclists killed in crashes has also risen significantly in Nevada, with a 183% increase in cyclist deaths compared to 2023.

Of the 17 motorcyclist deaths in 2024, 15 have been in Clark County, an increase from only six in 2023.

According to an infographic from the Nevada DPS, the top contributing factors to the fatalities were driver impairment and speeding. Over 12,000 people are killed in the United States from speeding-related crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
