Amazon removed Just Walk Out from many of its own stores but wants to sell the system to others

NEW YORK (AP) — Amazon wants other businesses to know it’s not giving up on its Just Walk Out technology. Although the company is ditching the cashier-less checkout system at its Amazon Fresh grocery stores, it plans to sell the technology to more than 120 third-party businesses this year. Just Walk Out uses cameras, artificial intelligence and sensor trackers to determine what’s taken off of shelves, enabling customers to grab what they want and leave after paying at a store’s entry gate. Amazon Go convenience stores and some Amazon Fresh stores in the U.K. will continue to offer Just Walk Out. But Amazon says the technology will be replaced with smart carts at Fresh stores in the U.S.

Tesla asks shareholders to restore $56B Elon Musk pay package that was voided by Delaware judge

DETROIT (AP) — Tesla is asking shareholders to restore a $56 billion pay package for CEO Elon Musk that was rejected by a Delaware judge this year, and to shift the company’s corporate home to Texas. Stockholders will vote on the changes at a June 13 annual meeting. The proposals come as the electric vehicle maker struggles with falling global sales, slowing electric vehicle demand, an aging model lineup and a stock price that has tumbled 37% so far this year. In January, the Delaware court ruled that Musk is not entitled to the huge compensation plan that was to be granted over 10 years starting in 2018. But in a regulatory filing, Chairperson Robyn Denholm said Musk met all the stock value and operational targets in the package that was approved by shareholders.

Hugh Grant says he took ‘enormous sum’ to settle suit alleging illegal snooping by The Sun tabloid

LONDON (AP) — Hugh Grant says he accepted “an enormous sum of money” to settle a lawsuit accusing the publisher of The Sun tabloid of unlawfully tapping his phone, bugging his car and breaking into his home to snoop on him. The actor said Wednesday that he did so reluctantly to avoid potentially hefty legal costs even if he prevailed at trial. His lawyer says court rules that promote settlements could force fellow claimant Prince Harry to also settle. The settlement amount was not disclosed. News Group Newspapers made no admission of liability and says it settled to avoid a costly trial.

Schumer says US will provide $6.1 billion to Micron Technology for chip plants in NY, Idaho

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Biden administration has reached an agreement to provide $6.1 billion in government support for Micron Technology to produce advanced memory computer chips in New York and Idaho. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, personally courted Micron to build what would ultimately be a set of four chip factories near Syracuse. He noted in a Wednesday interview that the announcement was a sign to voters about how Democrats were reviving the manufacturing sector. The funding comes from the 2022 CHIPS and Science Act, which is set to provide government support for new and expanded facilities being developed by Intel, TSMC, Samsung and Global Foundries, among other chip companies.
