Police: Substitute teacher arrested after gun found at NLV high school

A substitute teacher has been arrested after police say she brought a gun to Legacy High School.

The Clark County School District Police Department said in a media release today that it arrested Jynnell McClellan, 52, on Monday after finding a gun in the parking lot at the North Las Vegas school. She was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on charges related to possession of a firearm on school property.

There was no threat to the school or students, police said.

McClellan had been employed by CCSD since 2015, the district said. She has been removed from CCSD’s substitute pool and is no longer eligible to substitute in the district.

It is illegal to possess a firearm on school property in Nevada even if the gun owner has a valid concealed carry permit.
