Las Vegas Wildcats quarterback Mychael Walker (6) celebrates with his team after they defeat the Ranco Rams, 60-6, during the annual Bone Game at Rancho High School in North Las Vegas Friday, Aug. 30, 2024.

Las Vegas High football coach Jose Cerriteño made sure his players knew what they were playing for on Friday night.

The Bone Game rivalry with Rancho is one of Nevada’s oldest high school football rivalries. For both schools, you can argue it’s the only game that matters on their schedule.

“We took a bunch of pride in the preparation this week,” Cerriteño said. “It wasn’t just getting ready for the game; it was making sure the kids understood how privileged they were to play in it.”

The preparation worked: Las Vegas won 60-6 for the 27th straight win in the series. Christopher Boddy, who is primarily a linebacker, started at running back and was unstoppable with three rushing scores. Tanner Vibabul and Mychael Walker also had multiple touchdowns.

Cerriteño, a first-year head coach and Las Vegas graduate, was emotional when talking about the significance of the win.

“Just pride. Lots of pride,” he said. “When you think of the history of the game and traditions of both schools, it really allows you to understand the privilege of what we played for.”
