The Faith Lutheran football team made quick work of Reno’s Damonte Ranch on Friday night, scoring on the first play from scrimmage thanks to a long touchdown reception from Jaxon Cope in a 41-0 win.
The Crusaders, who last season advanced to the state championship game, improved to 3-0 on the season. Yes, three wins — and it’s still August.
“It’s what you want,” coach Mike Sanford said. “It’s a great position to be in.”
Sanford said quarterback Alex Rogers, who passed for two touchdowns, played well. He also raved about his defense, which recorded a shutout and scored on an interception return from Ricky Manning.
Cale Breslin had two touchdown runs.
Faith Lutheran is off next week before opening league play against Shadow Ridge. Faith Lutheran and Shadow Ridge are projected to be the top teams in the Class 5A, Division II.
“Shadow Ridge, that’s a huge game for us,” Sanford said.
